Codex
Connect the Fullstory MCP server to ChatGPT or Codex to query your product data in conversation. These instructions are the same in both clients—installing the Fullstory plugin on your account makes it available in ChatGPT, the Codex desktop app, and Codex CLI.
Prerequisites
- StoryAI features enabled for your Fullstory org (see the note below — this is a hard requirement; without it your client will connect but show zero tools).
- A ChatGPT or Codex account
Fullstory MCP requires StoryAI features to be enabled for your org. If your org has opted out of StoryAI, your MCP client will appear to connect successfully (OAuth completes, the server shows as "connected") but no tools will be available.
An account Admin can verify or change this at Settings > StoryAI Features in Fullstory. If you don't see that page, you don't have the role needed to change it. Ask an Admin in your org.
See FAQ & Troubleshooting if your client is connected but no tools appear.
Connect from the ChatGPT plugin directory
Find the Fullstory plugin in the ChatGPT plugin directory. The same steps work in Codex.
- Open the plugin page above. You can also find it from within ChatGPT or Codex:
- Click Explore.
- Click Plugins.
- Search for Fullstory.
- Click +.
- Click Install plugin, then sign in to Fullstory when prompted (this starts OAuth).
- Review the requested permissions and click Approve.
- Back in ChatGPT or Codex, click Try now.
The plugin includes the Fullstory general-analysis, comparisons, and session-review skills, so there's nothing extra to install.
Codex CLI
Installing the plugin above is what makes Fullstory available in Codex CLI—there's no separate CLI install step. After installing, start a new Codex CLI chat and Fullstory MCP will be available.
A plugin-catalog search inside the CLI does not list Fullstory, and pasting the plugin link into a CLI chat only suggests it rather than installing it. Complete Install on the account page or in the desktop app first, then open a new chat in the CLI.
Verify the connection
Start a new conversation and ask:
What Fullstory tools are available?
Codex will list the available tools if the connection is working.
Using the tools
Once connected, you can ask Codex questions about your product data in natural language. For example:
- "What are the biggest user frustrations on our product right now?"
- "How many users abandoned the checkout form last month? Break it down by device type."
- "Find me sessions where users hit a console error on the settings page."
See Example Workflows for more patterns.
